Automotive & Industrial

Bringing Together Real-Time Control, Trusted Operation and Software Quality

Automotive electronics and industrial equipment must combine real-time control, data reliability and security over long service lives. Growing software complexity and connectivity call for coordinated design of specialized on-chip computing, firmware, dependency management and interface testing.

Foresemi provides real-time mathematical acceleration, on-chip hardware security subsystems, cryptographic algorithms and error-correction IP for automotive and industrial MCUs and SoCs, supporting chip architectures built for trusted and reliable operation.

Industry Context & Design Challenges

Risks in Automotive Communication & Industrial Control

In-vehicle networks, V2X communications, remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates expand vehicle trust boundaries. Industrial equipment may connect to production networks through gateways or remote-maintenance interfaces. Identity spoofing, command tampering, key exposure or failed updates can disrupt vehicle functions and production, not just confidentiality. Designs must address command provenance, sensitive-data protection and safe states after faults.

Automotive Cybersecurity, Functional Safety & SOTIF

ISO/SAE 21434 addresses road-vehicle cybersecurity engineering, while GB 44495-2024 covers vehicle cybersecurity technical requirements in China. ISO 26262 addresses functional-safety risks from electrical and electronic system faults; ISO 21448 (SOTIF) addresses risks from limitations in intended functionality. These require distinct analyses and verification and cannot be replaced by a single security scan or hardware module.

Industrial Functional Safety & Lifecycle Management

Industrial control systems need to maintain or enter a safe state under faults or abnormal conditions. IEC 61508 brings safety functions, risk reduction and safety integrity levels (SIL) into lifecycle management; its software requirements cover development, verification and maintenance. Industrial digital products for the EU also need to assess applicable CRA cybersecurity and vulnerability-maintenance requirements. The two address different concerns.

From Requirements to Design, Development & Testing

During design, identify assets, threats and trust boundaries and define boot, key-management and communication-protection policies. During development, review code against guidelines such as MISRA, assess third-party components, vulnerabilities and licenses, and retain SBOMs. During testing, verify abnormal behavior at CAN, automotive Ethernet and industrial-protocol interfaces. Automotive SPICE provides a framework for assessing development-process capability.
